One summer day in 1976, in the crisp and clean Rocky Mountains of Wyoming along the Wind River Mountains range, 10 year old Bradley Loren Marlow asked his Mother if he could take a picture with her "really cool" camera. Off through the forest he went, past seemingly endless rows of Lodgepole pine that touched the clouds and Wyoming wildflowers that covered the ground. His feet crackled with crunches of old poetic pine needles along side Warm Spring creek as he searched beyond small wild strawberries and palettes of purple Silvery Lupine. The scent of dew-stained pine and thick brown earth pleasantly overwhelmed the child.
The Wyoming mountains were filled with with ample opportunities for nature photography and this place always had a mystical feel for this young man. Whether he was at scenic Brook's Lake with the intense blues and greens, up at Double Cabin fishing with his Father on the rocky stream banks of upper Wiggins Fork or along the South Pass Loop with its incredible display of red rocky clay, little Bradley always felt right at home here. Somehow the Rocky Mountains of Wyoming and wildflowers always seemed to speak to him.
The youngster spotted a brilliantly colorful yellow butterfly with dots of iridescent blue on it's wings. He edged closer and closer, all the while peering excitedly through the lens and trying to focus the contraption he held in his small hands. Though wildflowers like Blue Penstemon, white Phlox and the beautiful Woods Rose were all about, this delicate creature alighted on an old pine branch covered with hairy green Wolf lichen.
He inched ever closer. It almost seemed as though this paper winged critter posed for a split second. Bradley pressed the "little button on top" and with that first snap of nature photography, a nature photographer was born.
Wyoming Winking Nature Speaks revisits these wonderful places. This is a book filled with pictures of nature in Wyoming, colorful nature photography, Wyoming wildflowers, blazing sunsets, pictures of scenic nature and Wyoming streams and lakes. Wildflower descriptions: it contains information on several species of wildflowers like Marsh Marigold, Buckwheat, Old Man's Whiskers, Jacob's Ladder, Limber pine and Indian Pond Lily.
